Club Leadership

The leadership of the Devils Lake Yacht Club is provided by a combination of professional staff and a large group of volunteers.  Our mission is to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere to enjoy the beauty and benefits of Devils Lake.  Club leadership is provided by our line officers, executive committee, Board of Governors and our professional manager.   Our executive committee consists of the line officers being Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Past Commodore, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary.  The Executive Board is supported by the club manager, club accountant and office manager.  Each of these line officer positions are annually nominated and elected by the members of our club with each serving one year in the position.  In addition to the executive committee, the elected Board of Governors provides guidance and support for the executive management of the club and helps set our future direction.  Each member of the Board of Governors serves a three-year staggered term  and often continues to serve our club as a line officer.  The Recording Secretary is the official record keeper of the actions of the board and generates artifacts documenting all activities and meetings of the Board of Governors.  Our Executive Secretary for Membership advises the board on membership retention and attraction activities, membership types and capacity, and organizes new member welcoming ambassadors and events.  The Fleet Captain organizes and coordinates all activities of our sailing fleet including hosting various regattas with sailors from the tri-state area in addition to administering the annual youth sailing camp.  Our Devils Lake Yacht Club Auxiliary group plans and orchestrates many of our enjoyable formal and informal annual events such as the Tiki Party, Shipwreck Party, Family Fun Day, and many other celebrations.

Devils Lake Yacht Club is professionally guided by our General Manager, Sheryl Walker.  Our club is fortunate to have Sheryl to guide the daily activities utilizing her immense experience throughout her career.  She oversees the entire Club operation including kitchen, bar, and service staff, in addition to the office staff, and buildings and grounds maintenance crews.

Devils Lake Yacht Club is gift from all of our founders and previous leaders since our humble beginnings in 1941.  It is the responsibility and honor of our current leadership to be the stewards of this legacy, to continue the traditions of our founding members, and prepare and secure the club for future generations of boaters to enjoy the beauty of the Devils Lake and our facilities.

DLYC Auxiliary

Enhancing the Member Experience, One event at a time!

Our Auxiliary was organized in 1950 with the help of Edna Carlson, wife of the club manager.  Since its inception, the Auxiliary has gradually been given the responsibility to replace or add equipment for the kitchen and dining room. The Auxiliary has purchased yard furniture, tables and umbrellas, card tables and folding chairs, all the children's equipment, and a drinking fountain. In 1961, Auxiliary dues are paid at the same time with the Club dues whereby money is available earlier in the year for improvements.  In later years, members of the Auxiliary have planted flowers and shrubs outdoors.  In addition to providing aid in many major projects at the request of the board, they set up a tornado shelter in the basement, refurbished dressing rooms, lounges and foyer, installed paddle fans in the dining room, stereo system, porch folding doors and landscaping including the on-going purchase of lawn chairs and tables.  In 1972, the Auxiliary initiated the Commodores Gallery.  The Auxiliary also sponsors several children's parties, an occasional teen party, as the need occurs, and an annual Women's Sailing Trophy.  To finance these projects the Auxiliary began the Wednesday Euchre Tournament.
